Expanded perlite is used as a pre-coat material to filter solid particles, of around 1micron or larger, from liquids and suspensions (filtration of edible oils, clarification of wines, filtration of chemicals and pharmaceutical solutions (enzymes, antibiotics), water treatment, etc
Perlite filter aids provide the user with a density advantage of 20-50% over other filter-aids. Users of filter-aids can considerably reduce filtration costs without sacrificing performance by converting to perlite filter aids
The major advantages of expanded perlite as filter-aid are:
- rapid filtration of viscous liquids
- high surface area of particles
- inert in most mineral and organic acids
